Our Process

1

Roof & Property Assessment

We evaluate the roof material, the extent of algae or moss, and access points — and plan protection for everything below it.

2

Protect & Pre-Wet

Landscaping, decks, and anything beneath the roof line gets pre-wetted and shielded before any solution is applied.

3

Apply the Soft-Wash Treatment

We apply the cleaning solution at essentially garden-hose pressure. It kills the algae and lifts the staining without a single high-pressure pass over your shingles.

4

Controlled Rinse

Where appropriate, we gently rinse the roof and always rinse the runoff paths — gutters, siding, and landscaping below.

5

Walkthrough & Photos

We review the results with you and can provide before/after photos. Moss and lichen continue to release over the following weeks of weather.

Frequently Asked Questions

Yes — the way we do it. We use the soft-wash method recommended by shingle manufacturers: a cleaning solution applied at very low pressure. What actually damages roofs is high-pressure washing, which strips granules off shingles. We never pressure wash a roof.
A hardy algae called Gloeocapsa magma. It feeds on the limestone filler in asphalt shingles and spreads down the roof over time. Beyond looking bad, it holds moisture and heat against the shingles, shortening their life. Removing it is maintenance, not just cosmetics.
Algae streaks disappear with the wash. Moss and lichen are killed by the treatment but grip the shingles — forcing them off would damage the roof. They dry out and release naturally with weather over the following weeks.
As little as possible. Most roofs can be treated from ladders and roof edges. When walking the roof is necessary, we use proper safety equipment and soft-soled footwear, and we avoid fragile or steep sections.
Every 2–4 years for most homes in the Greenville area, depending on shade and tree cover. Once streaks start reappearing, it’s time — catching it early keeps each cleaning gentler and cheaper.
